After the mass school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018, students rose to the occasion to advocate for gun control, especially outspoken senior X González, a survivor who delivered a powerful speech during a rally that gained national attention. They played a key role in organizing the March for Our Lives and have continued the fight to implement stricter gun laws, having since co-founded the gun control advocacy committee Never Again MSD.
